It Started With a Few Lights…

Ray of Lights didn’t start with a grand plan. It started with some permanent under-eave lights on our home and a simple idea: what else could we make these things do?

A few lights turned into more lights. Then came music. Then sequencing. Then controllers, FM radio, Christmas trees, and a whole lot of programming to bring everything together.

Before long, decorating the house for Christmas had turned into building an actual show.

Each year, we’ve added something new, tried something different, and probably made things a little more complicated than they needed to be. But that’s part of the fun.

For 2026, we wanted to take it another step and make the experience interactive. Instead of everyone seeing the exact same show, visitors can help choose the music and watch the lights dance along.

At the end of the day, Ray of Lights is still just a family Christmas project that got a little out of hand. We build it because we love Christmas, we love creating things, and we love seeing families stop for a few minutes, turn up the radio, and enjoy the show together.

It started with a few permanent lights. The rest is history.
